The Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 2014 requires training and regulation on specific health and safety topics for all caregivers that are licensed or who receive federal child care subsidy funding. The Early Learning Division will be adopting rules on the new training requirements soon. More information with links to the training will be on the Office of Child Care website by September 30, 2016.

For Certified Child Care Centers and Certified Family Child Care Homes:

Beginning 9/30/16 all new caregivers and substitutes in Certified Child Care Centers and Certified Family Child Care Homes must complete the free online “Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety” training within 30 days. Staff members will receive two hours of training credit for completing the course in addition to the two hours they already receive for orientation. This training is only required to be taken once and is available online with no fee beginning September 30, 2016.

All current caregivers and substitutes employed in a Certified Child Care Center or Certified Family Child Care Home must complete the online “Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety” training by 6/30/17.

For Registered Family Child Care Homes:

All new providers must complete the free online “Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety” training as part of application process beginning 9/30/16. The training is available in English, Spanish, Russian and Chinese beginning September 30, 2016.

All current Registered Family Child Care Home providers and substitutes must complete the “Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety” training by 6/30/17. Current providers will receive two hours of training credit for completing the course.
