Governor Brown issues proclamation for “Week of the Young Child”

Giving her support to high quality early learning care and education, Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed a proclamation for April 8-12, 2019 as “Week of the Young Child.” The week is an annual celebration hosted by NAEYC to spotlight early learning, young children, their teachers, families and communities.

Daily themes such as “Music Monday” and “Artsy Thursday” focus on creativity and the importance of high quality early learning, along with the critical role early childhood educators play in a child’s development and learning. Oregon’s Early Learning Division encourages teachers and parents to share examples of their activities with #woyc19 on social media.

Brown’s proclamation also calls on the need for skilled, educated, consistent and well compensated early educators, and sufficient high quality child care for families.
